ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION POLICY FOR DR JUDY BENTLEY
Electronic communication is unavoidable in current society and can often be beneficial with doctor and patient communication. Please see our electronic communications policy below. While it is not comprehensive, the aim is to inform you that we will endeavor to protect your patient confidentiality at all times in our practice.
WHAT TYPES OF COMMUNICATIONS ARE WE TALKING ABOUT?
This policy refers to all verbal or electronic communications between the psychiatrist, staff member or other health practioners and the patient/clients, that is not face-to-face, and not limited to, telephone, fax, Whatsapp, (and different comparable apps) E-mail, SMS and other social messaging platforms.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
Psychiatrists/health practitioners have a duty to protect patient confidentiality, as per the POPI legislation (Protection of Private Information Act).
WHAT ARE THE LIABILITIES WHEN USING ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION?
While we endeavor to protect your private information at all at all times, electronic messages might be seen and shared without our knowledge by third parties.
WHO WILL HAVE ACCESS TO MY ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION?
If you send the message to firstname.lastname@example.org only the administrator and Dr Judy Bentley will have access to your email.
We ask that you please send any electronic communication directly to the intended individual where possible, alternatively, our administartion will direct your query appropriately.
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THE PSYCHIATRIST'S PHONE AND OTHER COMMUNICATION DEVICES ARE ON SILENT DURING OFFICE HOURS AS WE ARE USUALLY ATTENDING TO PATIENTS. FOR URGENT MATTERS PLEASE CONTACT THE ADMINISTRATOR ON THE CONTACT NUMBER OR EMAIL BELOW.
