Dr Judy Bentley
Dr Judy Bentley became passionate about mental health through her own mental health journey. At the age of 15 she experienced her first severe depression. It took some years before she was privileged enough to find someone who truly listened and was committed to equipping her with the skills to manage her own illness. This is now her mission within her practice – to work together with her patients to find the right combination of lifestyle interventions, therapy and support to enable them to live a life full of purpose, love, connection and self-acceptance. Medication is used judiciously and cautiously where appropriate, but is seldom the sole intervention.
Judy has worked as a psychiatrist since 2007. She trained at UCT and initially worked in the State sector working with intellectually disabled and/or autistic people for four years. She established her private practice in 2011 and feels truly privileged to be able to work with people with a wide variety of mental health concerns. It is the individual who is key and not the illness.
In 2020 (the year that wasn’t), she relocated to Plettenberg Bay where she has established the Mind Centre. She hopes to grow the centre into a place where people from all walks of life feel free to be themselves and where they can receive help for all their mental health concerns. She also works closely with local rehabilitation centres in the area.
